Alucard

Sheryl Cooper had just graduated from college with a degree in physical education. She was looking forward to teaching PE at the local grade school as well as opening up a karate studio next to her friend, Amy’s gym for women. She would have all summer to get the studio up and running before school started. She had just signed a lease. She had achieved a third degree black belt while away at college. She was very passionate about helping women learn to fight off attackers. Her mother had been a victim of domestic violence years ago and her good friend, Sasha, had been a victim of date rape.

One evening Sheryl went to watch her nephew, Mike, play baseball. Mike was a left handed slugger on his high school team. She sat by left field where Mike played. She couldn’t help but notice a man sitting all alone near center field who looked strangely out of place. He was dressed in a very expensive looking suit. She figured that he was probably a scout. Perhaps, he would have an interest in Mike.

As luck would have it, the first three batters on Mike’s team all got on base. Mike came up to bat with the bases loaded. Ball one. Ball two. Mike ripped the third pitch right out of the park, straight to the guy in the suit. Sheryl saw this as the perfect opportunity to go talk to the man and see if he was indeed a scout. She walked over to introduce herself. She felt an attraction to the man almost immediately. The man introduced himself as Vincent Alucard and spoke in a manner which Sheryl found mesmorizing. She knew who he was, a local legend, and the owner of the bat factory which made the bats that all the players loved to use. He asked her to dinner right then and there and she accepted.

The two began dating and really hit it off. They went to fancy dinners, comedy clubs, casinos, concerts, movies, and plays. Vincent was so much fun to be around and he could afford to take her out all the time. But something did not seem right. She thought it odd that he would only see her at night. He always said that he had to work long hours at the bat factory. She also wondered why he was always busy on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

One Tuesday night she decided to surprise him. She went to his mansion up on the hill. Upon arriving, she discovered the door ajar and entered to surprise him. The place was huge and looked like a gothic castle both inside and out. Sheryl began to walk down a long corridor and approached a set of double doors that looked like they belonged in a medieval castle. She pushed the doors open and there was Vincent with his face buried on another girl’s neck. She startled him. As he looked up, Sheryl could see fangs in his mouth from which blood was dripping. She was shocked and frightened. She ran for her life. Vincent ran after her and blocked her escape. Sheryl picked up a baseball bat and clubbed him over the head, breaking the bat and leaving her with a handle and a sharp end. Fearing for her life, thinking Vincent was a vampire, she thrust the sharp end of the broken bat into his chest. As blood was spurting out of Vincent’s chest people rushed in yelling “Stop! Stop! We were just filming a vampire movie, it’s not real.”

Just because the love of your life is strange and eccentric that doesn’t mean he’s a bloodthirsty vampire. Be sure you have all the facts before you let your inner nightmares drive you to do something batty. Have a happy Halloween. Good luck.
